Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation
Prof. Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska is a professor of engineering and technical sciences in the discipline of mechanical engineering. Prof. J. Patalas-Maliszewska was the Vice-Rector for Cooperation with Industry of Zielona Góra from January to August 2024. Until December 2023, she was the Chair of the Scientific Discipline Council for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Zielona Góra (UZ) and the Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering at UZ (IIM UZ).
The research conducted by Prof. Patalas-Maliszewska is rooted in the discipline of mechanical engineering, with a focus on production engineering in the area of modeling and designing systems that support the management of production knowledge. After graduating in 2003, Prof. Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska began working at the Centre for Enterprise and Technology Transfer at the University of Zielona Góra, and later at the Institute of Computer Science and Production Management at UZ. She defended her doctoral dissertation titled "Modeling and Evaluation of the Effectiveness of ERP System Implementation in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Using the GMDH Method" with distinction at the Faculty of Production Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology in 2006. In 2009, she received an international grant under the 7th Framework Programme, People, Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship for Career Development, and worked for three years as a researcher at the Institute of Computer Science and Algorithms at the Technical University of Vienna, Austria. Most of the results of this work were presented in her habilitation monograph titled "Knowledge Worker Management: Value Assessment, Methods, and Application Tools", Springer Verlag Heidelberg, Germany. Prof. Patalas-Maliszewska obtained her postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in technical sciences in 2013 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany. After obtaining her postdoctoral degree, she continued her research addressing the issue of distribution (dissemination and implementation) of the knowledge accumulated in production. The aim of this research was to explore methods for implementing innovative technological solutions and appropriate, modern forms of production organization. Her research, emphasizing the synergy between the human factor and technological potential in the production process, aligns with the principles of Industry 4.0, which seeks solutions that enable the harmonious integration of human labor and machines. In 2023, she worked as a visiting professor at the Institute of Systems and Production Processes at the Technical University of Chemnitz, Germany. In May 2023, Professor Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska was awarded the title of Professor of Engineering and Technology Sciences in the field of mechanical engineering.
The achievements of Prof. Patalas-Maliszewska are reflected in over 270 works, including more than 180 published after obtaining the habilitation degree. These works include authored monographs, such as the one published in 2022 by Taylor&Francis Scientific Publishing titled "Managing Manufacturing Knowledge in Europe in the Era of Industry 4.0" and "Reference Models of Knowledge Management in a Manufacturing Enterprise" (PWN, 2019), more than 40 articles in journals with Impact Factor, including Advances in Production Engineering & Management, Sensors and Actuators: Physical, Elsevier, as well as over 40 articles presented at national and international scientific conferences. It is worth noting that the results of these works have been implemented in business practice, including in KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. and Lumel S.A.
Prof. Patalas-Maliszewska has been the supervisor of 7 doctoral theses, prepared numerous reviews of doctoral dissertations, habilitation applications, and professor applications. The significance of the research conducted by Prof. Patalas-Maliszewska is also evidenced by the fact that she has led many international and national scientific research projects (19 projects), funded, among others, through EU programs, Interreg, the Ministry of Education and Science, and NCBiR. She received research scholarships and participated in national and international scientific internships funded by, among others, DAAD and MEiN, at institutions such as Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, and Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany. Prof. Patalas-Maliszewska is a member of several scientific committees of national and international conferences, including within the framework of IFAC. She is the editor-in-chief of the quarterly Foundations of Management and Zeszyty IIM UZ in the Production Engineering series. She has written over 100 reviews of scientific papers published in renowned journals such as Expert Systems, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, ISA Transactions, and International Journal of Production Research.
Professor Patalas-Maliszewska applies her organizational skills in various activities: she served as the Rector's Proxy for the Evaluation of the Quality of Scientific Activity at the University of Zielona Góra (2021-2023), the Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UZ, and the Chair of the RDN Mechanical Engineering (2019-2023). She also served as the Vice-Dean for Science at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UZ for two terms (2013-2016, 2017-2019), a member of the Senate Committee for Science at the University of Zielona Góra, Chair of the Faculty Science Committee at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UZ, a member of the Council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UZ, and a member of the Permanent Doctoral Committee at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UZ in the discipline of Production Engineering (since 2014). Currently, she is the Chair of the University Council of Scientific Disciplines at UZ for 2020-2023, a member of the Permanent Doctoral Committee at UZ in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering for the term 2020-2023, and a member of the Senate of the University of Zielona Góra for 2024-2027.
